While the Husker football team has had it's ups and downs over the years, one thing has remained consistent: Sell-out crowds at Memorial Stadium.

Lincoln's Memorial Stadium was built in just over 90 working-days in 1922. It was named in honor of all Nebraskans who served in the Spanish-American Wars, the civil war, and World War I -- it would later honor those Nebraskans that served in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.

The first Husker football game held in the stadium was against Kansas on October 20, 1923. The two teams tied, scoreless. Since then, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have gone on to win back-to-back titles in 1970 and 1971, and additional titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997. They have won 358 games in the stadium with only 107 losses and 13 ties.

The Huskers performance at the stadium has created a die-hard following in the state. Since 1962, Memorial Stadium has had 288 consecutive sellout crowds. This makes it the holder of the NCAA record for the most sellout crowds. The last game that was not a sellout occurred on October 20, 1962 between Kansas State and the Huskers in which only 30,701 were in attendance.

Since the first sellout crowd in 1962, more and more seats have been added to accommodate the massive Husker football following. The stadium has added nearly 50,000 seats during this time and the fans just keep on coming. On game day, the population of Memorial Stadium is the third largest in the state of Nebraska -- third only to Lincoln and Omaha. This is a testament to the Nebraska Cornhusker football team and Husker fans everywhere.
